| Professor Mary E. Beckman, from Ohio State University, U.S.A. Professor Beckman is one of the world's foremost researchers in the phonetic sciences who has made outstanding contributions to intonation, prosodic typology, and language acquisition. Her research is characterised by empirical analyses of speech production and perception and stands at the intersection of cognition, computer science, linguistics, and sociology. The focus of Professor Beckman’s research in Germany will be on historical sound change and its relationship to child language acquisition based on analyses of spoken language data in several European and Asian languages. Professor Beckman is hosted by Professor Harrington at the Institute of Phonetics and Speech Processing, Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich. |
